It All Begins With The Perfect Draft
Each year, millions of people enjoy participating in fantasy baseball and football leagues. While a fantasy baseball or football season will last for months, the entire success of your team will ultimately come down to whether you were able to draft a successful team.
Due to the immense popularity of fantasy sports, player will find hundreds of articles from sports writers, fantasy players, and other “experts”, which discuss which players to draft, when to draft them, and strategies to follow. Since there are so many to choose from, and the advice given is often contradictory, most people would be better off choosing their own strategy for ranking players prior to the draft.
When looking at players for either the fantasy baseball or football draft, it is obviously important to consider the historical statistical success that each player has had. However, it can be just as important to consider additional factors which could influence whether the player can be successful in the upcoming year, or if they will struggle in the future. Some factors that need to be considered is whether the player is switching teams, has a new coach that follows a different strategy, of if there team signed a new player that will compete for playing time.
Another important thing to consider is the depth of the players at each position that you are drafting for. In baseball, most years there are at least a dozen first basemen that put up good statistics. On the other hand, there are only a few second basemen, catchers, and shortstops that put up good numbers. In most situations you would be far better off taking a player that plays a position with less depth earlier in the draft and waiting to take the first baseman as this should maximize the amount of points that your team could score.
